Routine and Emergency Services

Dr. Dustin Hunt

Dr. Hunt graduated from Purdue University in 2018. He worked for Smith Veterinary in high school and in the summers of undergrad. He practices small animal medicine and surgery with a strong interest in canine reproduction.

He has dogs (1 Bullmastiff and 1 American Staffordshire Terrier) and 3 cats at home.

Dr. Hannah Peralez

 Dr. Peralez grew up in Decatur, Indiana. She graduated from Purdue University with her DVM degree in May 2024.  

She is excited to have moved back to Adams County to be near her family and friends. She has a passion for feline medicine, with hopes of becoming a feline specialist in the future. In her free time, she enjoys discovering new parks with her daughters, reading, and spending time with her family.

Joni Bollenbacher, (RVT)

Joni Bollenbacher, from Berne, IN, started at Smith Veterinary Hospital and earned a degree in Veterinary Technology from Purdue. After 11 years managing a multi-doctor practice, she returned to Smith Veterinary in 2019. She and her husband, Vince, have three daughters and live on a farm. Joni enjoys showing horses, trail riding, and caring for her pets, including a Great Dane and a Brussels Griffon.

Meghan Johnson, (RVT)

Meghan graduated from Adams Central High School in 2008 and earned her Bachelor’s in Veterinary Technology from Purdue in 2012. She worked at Smith Vet during high school and part of college. Married in 2015, she and her husband have three boys and live near Monroe with their Golden Retriever, Mini Aussie, Mini Poodle, and Standard Poodle.

Valerie Smith, (Office Manager)

Valerie, the youngest daughter of Dr. Madge and Dr. Larry, has been with Smith Veterinary Hospital her entire life, helping wherever needed. Outside of work, she breeds and shows Cardigan Welsh Corgis and enjoys spending time with her ponies, Scotch and Doug, and her Gypsy Vanner mare, Ducks. With a deep love for animals, she’s thrilled to work with you and your pets.

Sherri Emenhiser, Receptionist

Sherri has a passion for both small and large animals. She and her husband, Jay, live on a small farm near Monroe with their four adult children, one son-in-law, and seven grand-doggies. Sherri also enjoys caring for her miniature donkeys, horses, and her own dogs, Trigger (coonhound mix) and Oakley (yorkie mix).

Kelly Meyer, RVT

Kelly lives in Decatur, with her dogs Dixie, Ollie, and 2 cats – Stella & Spike. Kelly graduated from the Vet Tech Institute in Fort Wayne in 2019 and has been a RVT for 4 years! Kelly loves the outdoors and camping.

Aside from being a full time RVT she teaches ages 3-5 Sunday school at church!

Jenny McIntire, Receptionist

Jen enjoys riding her horse, Ziva Jolena, alongside family and friends, helping with 4-H programs, and cheering on her kids at their sporting events. She and her family share their home with a lively group of animals, including 3 dogs, 2 horses, 1 goat, 1 pig, and 3 cats. Jen has also trained her own diabetic alert dog, Cinch, who occasionally accompanies her to work. She is married and a proud mom to 3 kids.

Willow Morningstar, Assistant

Willow graduated from South Adams in 2023 and is now attending Purdue University, where she began her pre-vet studies. She started working at Smith Veterinary Hospital in the fall of 2019. Willow has a cat named Lucifer and a dog named Harry. She loves being part of the team and learning from the amazing staff as she works toward her dream of becoming a veterinarian.

Brianne Hefner, Assistant/Receptionist

Brianne, our resident “crazy cat lady,” graduated from Elida High School in 2012. She has two children, Wyatt and Maliya, and shares her home with nine cats: Sadie, Marley, Oliver, New Kitty, Roxy, Marshmallow, Gray, Tiger, and Fievel. In her spare time, she enjoys baking and spending time with her family.
